The Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) was recently updated, to increase awareness diagnosing COPD with pulmonary function tests (PFTs) and identify treatable traits (symptoms and exacerbations), to better meet the needs of patients. This part two of the webinar series will focus on dyspnea as a treatable trait and spirometry.
This case-based two part webinar series is for the community-based pulmonologists to help recognize the importance of symptom-based burdens of COPD as a guide to pharmacological choices, that can also help optimize bronchodilation therapy and reduce exacerbations.
The further your knowledge, be sure to listen to the podcast Impacts of Patients Underreporting COPD Exacerbations.
Objectives
- Recognize the importance of exacerbations. Discuss the correlation of risk of exacerbation and mortality, health-related quality of life, exercise capacity and dyspnea.
- Provide a rationale for discussions with patients regarding symptoms and exacerbations, which may help guide treatment choices.
