CHEST ANNUAL MEETING 2022
CHEST 2022 Promises to Be Different From Any Other Meeting You Attend This Year

CHEST encompasses the best of chest medicine education, fun, and meaningful connection. This trio will be evident at CHEST 2022, as we have planned an eventful, one-of-a-kind experience, taking place October 16-19 in Nashville. Experience the trifecta—don’t miss these opportunities to join in on serious fun, serious education, and serious networking.
Serious fun
Kick off your CHEST 2022 experience in person with some serious fun at the Wildhorse Saloon for the Opening Reception, just steps away from the Convention Center. Hear live music, practice your line dancing, and say hello to the friends and peers you haven’t seen in 2 years. Attendees will also get to hear a musical performance by alt-rock band Sister Hazel!
Another way to experience the unique fun of a CHEST meeting is by participating in the live games.
One of the game experiences offered at the meeting this year will be the Escape Room themed “Starship Relics.” This is the first time in 2 years that the Escape Room will be a physical locked room. Work together with your peers to solve pulmonary-based puzzles aboard a 300 year-old Earth ship drifting in space.
“You don’t want to miss out on such a fun, one-of-a-kind, and fast-paced educational experience. Just trying it will be its own reward, but there are prizes for escaping in the least amount of time. And afterwards, every participant will electronically receive teaching points with references in addition to the great memories,” said Chair of CHEST Games, Bill Kelly, MD, FCCP.
Another game to look forward to is the Close Enough live game show hosted by CHEST President, David Schulman, MD, MPH, FCCP, where players' clinical knowledge will be tested and audience members will back the player they think answered correctly. The game ends when there is only one player left standing.
“I think what makes CHEST games unique is our focus on fun. Yes, you will learn things by playing or watching, but even if you don’t know what the answers are, the games and their hosts have a certain personality that is unique to CHEST,” Dr. Schulman said.
Continue the fun as a spectator by attending the CHEST Challenge Championship on Tuesday, October 18. Watch as the training programs from New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, Mayo Clinic, and Brooke Army Medical Center compete in a live Jeopardy-style game testing their clinical knowledge. You’ll want a front row seat to this lively competition to see which players walk away with the winner’s title and $5,000. Next year, fellows can participate in the CHEST Challenge online quiz to see if they have what it takes to score FREE registration for the CHEST Annual Meeting 2023 in Hawaii.
Serious education
Two years out from the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is now a wealth of research available on the virus, and much of it will be presented at the meeting. Sessions will include information on how COVID-19 has influenced the way clinicians practice medicine on a daily basis. Here are a few of the sessions to look forward to:
- Long COVID: It Can Take Your Breath Away
- Clinical Trial Updates in COVID-19 Critical Care
- COVID-19 Infections: Issues During and After Hospitalization
- Acute COVID-19 and Beyond: from Hospital to Homebound
This year, we will also have new advocacy sessions to learn what your peers are doing and hear the steps CHEST is taking to address health equity and become a louder voice in advocacy. We’ll empower you with the tools to speak up for your patients and your community.
You can also hear from your peers during the twelve Honor and Memorial Lectures throughout the meeting, where honorees will speak on topics like education, critical care, cardiopulmonary physiology, interventional medicine, mechanical ventilation, COPD, and more. View the schedule of speakers.
Serious networking
Grab a button during the meeting to include your name and your professional or personal interests to help spark up conversations with people who share your views. This easy, visual way to present yourself will make it easier to connect with new individuals during the meeting.
There will also be opportunities to connect with colleagues at the same stage in their career as you may be. Fellows can meet their peers, and also CHEST leaders and potential mentors, in the Trainee Lounge throughout the meeting. Plus, there will be a variety of pertinent sessions and resources exclusively for fellows and early career physicians.
CHEST 2022 also has networking activities specifically for people on the same career path. Special interest groups of CHEST members, known as CHEST Networks, will hold Network Sessions on Tuesday, October 18. Open to everyone, the Network Sessions give you an opportunity to learn more about the Networks, listen to featured lectures/panel discussions, meet with Section leaders, and hear about articles, projects, and CHEST submissions that are seeking collaborators. Consider joining a CHEST Network, so you can contribute to future projects.
And make sure you RSVP to attend the Women & Pulmonary luncheon, Monday, October 17, from 12-1:30 pm. Learn about advancing your career in pulmonary medicine from featured guest speaker Janet Bickel, a career and leadership development coach. She'll provide insight and tips on how to advance in your career through her presentation, “You Are the CEO of Your Own Career." A Continuing the Conversation breakfast will follow on Tuesday, October 18, and Wednesday, October 19, at 7 am, so you can extend your talks with new colleagues.
