Guideline Collaboration

CHEST is committed to working with other medical societies and related organizations to develop, disseminate, and encourage implementation of clinical practice guidelines. All formalized partnerships require a Memorandum of Understanding and are subject to the approval of CHEST leadership. CHEST engages in multi-organizational collaborations for select guidelines and consensus statements for several reasons:

  • To intensify globally harmonized recommendations, thereby reducing the chance of competing and incompatible guidance
  • To increase the credibility of the guideline or consensus statement
  • To promote wider adoption and increase acceptance by clinicians in multiple specialties through obtaining the approval of the various specialty societies and disciplines
  • To share the financial and staff resources to lessen the burden on any single organization
  • To optimize the ability to create living guidelines that respond to the need for timely updates to current recommendations

All invitations for collaboration with CHEST should be sent to guidelines@chestnet.org.

Review and Endorsement Requests

CHEST considers review and endorsement of guidelines that overlap with chest medicine in the areas of pulmonary, critical care, sleep, and pulmonary procedures. Reviews and endorsements that require the review of various levels of CHEST leadership may require several weeks. Submissions for consideration of endorsement or for peer-review comments may be sent to guidelines@chestnet.org.
