ACCP Grassroots Advocacy

Only one in three patients in the ICU is currently under the care of an intensivist. Shouldn’t more patients in the ICU receive optimal medical care from physicians who are specifically trained in critical care medicine and provide the majority of their care in an ICU setting?

In 2004, more than 3,000 people in the United States died of asthma. This chronic disease accounts for nearly 500,000 hospitalizations and approximately 1.8 million ED visits every year. Shouldn’t asthma management techniques be more broadly adopted to avoid many of these fatalities and expensive medical encounters?

The US Food and Drug Administration can regulate a box of macaroni and cheese but not a package of cigarettes, despite the fact that tobacco-caused disease is the leading preventable cause of death in our country – killing more than 400,000 people each year. Isn't it time to end the special protection for tobacco companies and level the playing field between tobacco and other products?
