GET TO KNOW YOUR LEADERSHIP

Q&A With Brett Bade, MD

Brett Bade, MD

Lung Cancer Section Vice-Chair
CHEST member since 2013

February 19, 2024

Where do you work?
Northwell Health.

What are your research interests?
My clinical and research interests are in lung cancer screening and cancer survivorship care. For lung cancer screening, my focus is on identifying and addressing barriers to lung cancer screening. For survivorship, my focus is on identifying methods to optimize quality of life in lung cancer survivors.

What led you to join your Network?
I initially joined the Thoracic Oncology and Chest Procedures Network at the recommendation of my mentor (Gerard A. Silvestri, MD, MS, Master FCCP). My first involvement was submitting an abstract evaluating a pilot physical activity intervention in lung cancer survivors. Today, my interests in lung cancer screening and cancer survivorship care have led me to the Lung Cancer Section.

What achievements are you most proud of contributing to within your Network?
I am most proud of the growing research work submitted to the Thoracic Oncology and Chest Procedures Network at the CHEST Annual Meetings.

How has being in a Network benefited your career and your experience as a CHEST member?
Participation in the Networks has allowed me to stay abreast of current research and emerging topics, as well as meet and collaborate with experts in the field.

What are your hobbies?
Woodworking, jogging, any game with a deck of cards, and playing pool.

What is something you cannot live without (after family and friends)?
My dog.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with your Network peers?
My favorite quote: "Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration," – Thomas Edison.
