CHEST RECOGNIZED FOR EXCELLENCE IN PUBLISHING
Dear ACCP Members,
CHEST, the official journal of the American College of CHEST Physicians, has been nationally recognized for both its excellence in publishing and its impact within the medical community.
CHEST Impact Factor:
In the recently released Journal Impact Factor report by Thomson Reuters, CHEST achieved its largest impact factor to date - a score of 5.154, an increase of more than 1 point over the previous year's score of 4.143. With this increase, CHEST's impact factor ranking in the respiratory journal category rose from 6th to 4th position. The impact factor is a measure of the frequency with which the "average article" in a journal has been cited in a given period of time. In the respiratory field, CHEST continues to rank second in total number of citations.
SLA Top 100 Award:
Last week, CHEST was honored as being one of the "100 most influential journals in the world in medicine and biology over the past 100 years" by the Biomedical and Life Sciences Division (DBIO) of the Special Libraries Association (SLA). The official award was presented to the ACCP on Tuesday, June 16, in Washington, DC, during the annual meeting and centennial celebration of the SLA. Accepting the award on behalf of the ACCP were CHEST Editor-in-Chief Richard S. Irwin, MD, FCCP; CHEST Executive Editor Stephen J. Welch; and myself (see photo). CHEST was not only considered to be among the DBIO 100 most influential journals in medicine and biology over the past 100 years but also among the 33 most influential journals in clinical medicine and allied health sciences. CHEST was also the only respiratory or respiratory-related journal chosen in this elite group, beating the second place respiratory journal by three times the number of votes, and shares the honor with other revered journals, such as Circulation, JAMA, Nature, New England Journal of Medicine, and The Lancet.
These outstanding achievements would not have been possible without the exceptional efforts of CHEST Editor-in-Chief Richard Irwin, MD, FCCP; Assistant Editor Cynthia T. French, NP, MS; Executive Editor Stephen J. Welch; past journal editors Alfred Soffer, MD, Master FCCP and A. Jay Block, MD, Master FCCP; numerous associate editors; and members of the editorial board. Thank you all for your constant leadership and contributions to the journal and for your overall support of pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine.
Sincerely,
Alvin Lever, MA, FCCP(Hon)
