The CHEST Foundation’s 10th Annual Making a Difference Awards Dinner

All ACCP members and their guests are invited to attend The CHEST Foundation’s 10th Annual Making a Difference Awards Dinner. The cocktail reception will begin at 7:00 pm, and the dinner and ceremonies are from 8:00 pm to 10:30 pm. The event will be held at the Marriott Downtown hotel.
The dinner ceremonies will honor the pro bono service of 14 humanitarian award winners and the ACCP Industry Advisory Council’s generous support of the Community Outreach Event. Highlighting the evening will be a special tribute to Forrest M. Bird, MD, PhD, ScD, inductee into the Inventors Hall of Fame and President of Bird Space Technology, Inc. Dr. Bird developed the advanced prototype Bird Universal Respirator for
acute and chronic cardiopulmonary care in 1956, which became the first highly reliable, low-cost, mass-produced medical respirator in the world.
Price per ticket is $150, and registration is available on The CHEST Foundation’s Web site at www.chestfoundation.org. Making a Difference Society members at the $1,000 annual gift level are entitled to two tickets, and annual donors at the $500 level are entitled to one ticket. ACCP Industry Advisory Council and The CHEST Foundation’s Community Outreach Event

The CHEST Foundation and the ACCP Industry Advisory Council are sponsoring the annual Community Outreach Event. The Lung LessonsSM program, developed by The CHEST Foundation, will be presented to students in elementary school who will learn the facts about asthma, the dangers of smoking, and how to take good care of their lungs. This year’s event will be held at a local Philadelphia elementary school. Attendees are invited to join in this interactive educational activity by indicating their interest to participate on the CHEST 2008 registration form, under “Special Events.” More information will then be mailed to you.
CHEST Challenge Play-offs

CHEST Challenge is a game for fellows-in-training to test their knowledge of pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine. Fellows from across the United States and Canada competed online to win free trips to CHEST 2008. The nine top-scoring programs will go head-to-head in a live Jeopardy game-show-style format for a chance to play in the championship match for all the glory and thousands of dollars in cash prizes.

This meeting, organized by the ACCP Respiratory Care NetWork, is open to all medical directors of respiratory care training programs and provides an opportunity for sharing concerns and knowledge. Members of the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) will answer questions regarding the credentialing process and the role of the medical director. 5K Lung Health Walk/Run

Participate in this annual CHEST event. This year’s run will take place along the Schuylkill River in Fairmount Park, just minutes from downtown Philadelphia. Registration fees are complimentary and include a photo of each participant. Photos may be picked up on Wednesday in the exhibit hall. Leadership Development Program for Academic and Private Practice Physicians
This program will give physicians the opportunity to discuss topics that will influence their professional growth and impact their leadership roles in academic or private practice settings. The participants will be introduced to special topics by leaders in the field who will offer guidance and preparatory material supporting and illustrating the role of active leaders in the ACCP. Attendance is by invitation only for academic physicians. It is recommended that members applying for the Private Practice Leadership Development program have been in private practice at least 3 years, but it is not mandatory.

15th Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellows Conference
This conference for pulmonary and critical care fellows will allow selected physicians an opportunity to attend a full-day lecture and skills lab. An outstanding faculty will present topics and practice issues important to fellows-in-training. Fellows must be nominated by training program directors to be considered for this conference.
3rd Asthma Fellows Conference: Developing the Asthma Expert
This conference will be offered to pulmonary fellows-in-training who indicate specific interest in asthma diagnosis and management. It will include such topics as pharmacogenetics, pathophysiology of asthma, new treatment approaches, and communication with patients about asthma control, as well as challenging case presentations and discussions. Fellows must be nominated by training program directors to be considered for this conference.
7th Pulmonary Fellows in Sleep Training Conference
This program will consist of several topics specifically geared to pulmonary fellows seeking added expertise in sleep medicine. Fellows must be nominated by training program directors to be considered for this conference.

10th Pediatric Fellows Conference
This conference for pulmonary/critical care pediatric fellows will allow young physicians to attend a special postgraduate course. A national faculty of specialists will discuss clinical topics and practice issues pertinent to pediatrics. Fellows must be nominated by training program directors to be considered for this conference.
4th Critical Care Fellows Conference
Fellows-in-training will focus on critical care medicine for the up-and-coming physician. An outstanding faculty will present topics and provide breakout sessions focusing on various areas of critical care medicine, including ARDS, mechanical ventilation, and sepsis. Fellows must be nominated by training program directors to be considered for this conference. 5th Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellows Conference
An outstanding faculty of cardiothoracic surgeons will lead small, interactive sessions on practical and cutting-edge topics of relevance to cardiothoracic surgeons-in-training, inclusive of thoracic aortic disease, thoracoscopic interventions, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, and postoperative management. Fellows must be nominated by training program directors to be considered for this conference.

PDA Products and Downloads
Don’t forget to visit the ACCP PDA Resource Center. The College has partnered with PDA Verticals to provide attendees exclusive discounts on PDA hardware and software products. Most PDAs are charged and loaded for immediate use.
A PDA download station will be available in the bridge area at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, allowing registrants to download the CHEST 2008 program and other select material.

The ACCP Bookstore is moving from ACCP Central to the registration area. The new location will allow for longer hours, so shopping for ACCP education products and resources will be more convenient.
Look for the new board review syllabi and ACCP-SEEK XVIII: Critical Care Medicine. The first edition of ACCP-SEEK Sleep Medicine will be available, along with many other new and updated products. The Ambassadors Group volunteers, educates, and networks to improve lung health at the local level. CHEST 2008 marks the third year the Ambassadors Group has raised funds to support a Humanitarian Recognition Award.
NEW for 2008
Ambassadors Group members, whose dues are current as of October 1, can attend CHEST 2008 free of charge. The $75 guest fee will be waived. Ambassadors may attend special events and other activities during CHEST 2008. ACCP members’ spouses, friends, and high school or college-age youth are invited to join the Ambassadors Group, participate in projects, and make new friends. The CHEST Foundation’s Ambassadors Group Event: Fine French Art at The Barnes Foundation and Museum
12:30 pm - 4:30 pm
For an afternoon of viewing fine art and beauty, Ambassadors Group members are invited to join other ACCP members and guests and visit The Barnes Foundation and Museum that houses one of the world’s finest private collections of postimpressionist and early French modern art. Works by Renoir, Cézanne, Matisse, Picasso, Monet, and Manet are displayed in the historic home of Dr. Albert Barnes, located on a 12-acre arboretum. The cost of $59 includes minibus transportation, guide, and admission. Space is limited, so register early at the tour desk located in the ACCP registration area.
