Late-Breaking Abstracts
CHEST 2009
October 31 - November 5, 2009
San Diego, CA

Late-breaking abstract submission has closed. Submitters will be notified of the status of their submission by September 7, 2009.

The American College of Chest Physicians wants to provide the latest and highest-quality scientific information to the attendees of its annual scientific meeting. To do so, the College is soliciting abstracts containing new late-breaking information. The abstract submission Web site will be open until August 23, 2009, 11:59 pm.

After our general abstract submission deadline on May 3, 2009, the World Health Organization raised the pandemic alert level to Phase 6 in response to the ongoing global spread of the influenza A (H1N1) virus. We welcome abstract submissions addressing this global pandemic. We also accept submissions meeting the late-breaking criteria below.

Abstract Presentation Venue, and Future Citation Opportunities
Accepted late-breaking abstracts will be highlighted in the final program to maximize exposure. To further enhance exposure, abstracts will be presented in a group of no more than four late-breaking abstracts during prime meeting periods. The individual abstracts within a group may present thematically unrelated information. Late breaking abstracts will be presented as 15-minute slide presentations followed by 5-minute discussion periods.

Submission Criteria
Criteria for acceptance in the annual program as late-breaking information will include the following:

  1. Abstracts should be of the highest possible quality, as may be represented by a randomized controlled trial with limited beta error, case control cohort study, or extensive metaanalysis.

  2. Submissions of abstracts addressing the recent H1N1 global pandemic or any new or outstanding issue of great health-care impact are encouraged.

  3. Abstracts must contain final results and incorporate appropriate statistical analysis. Abstracts submitted stating “results to follow” or a similar deferment cannot be considered.

  4. Please state/document the reason(s) this abstract is being submitted as late-breaking information and was not submitted during the general abstract submission period. This information is requested to ensure fairness to the large group of abstracts meeting the general submission deadline. Missing the general abstract deadline will not be an acceptable reason for late-breaking submission. An example of an acceptable explanation is that a blinded randomization had not been unblinded and the data not analyzed before the general abstract deadline.

  5. Multiple abstracts focusing on several different aspects of the same study will not be considered.

  6. Late-breaking abstracts have to contain novel data that has not been presented elsewhere.

If you have any questions regarding these submission criteria, you may e-mail the College at abstracts@chestnet.org
