CALL FOR ACCP CLINICAL CASE PUZZLERS
CHEST 2009, San Diego, CA

Applications are now closed. Please contact ACCP at programs@chestnet.org if you have any questions.

Do you have an interesting case that proved to be a diagnostic dilemma or presented a management problem? Would you like to present your case in an informal setting to a panel of expert clinicians, radiologists, and pathologists?

Six common radiographic patterns observed on CT scans will be selected (three from the United States/Canada and three International). The three panel members will each give a focused 10-minute discussion on the particular diseases that commonly result in the distinct clinical or radiologic pattern. Also discussed are factors in the patient history, physical exam, and radiographic images that may point toward one etiology over another. Subsequently, a junior faculty member (fellow or recent graduate) and a physician in private practice will present two illustrative cases on the specific topic, which will allow the panelists to use principles discussed earlier to make a diagnosis. The close correlation between the radiographic and pathologic findings will be emphasized.

Submit Cases

Submit your interesting cases for presentation at CHEST 2009. Rare cases are welcome, but extremely rare cases should be avoided. Cases should highlight an interesting teaching point in chest radiology that contributes to making a correct diagnosis. If your case is selected, your registration fee for CHEST 2009 will be waived.

Note: Cases submitted for ACCP Clinical Case Puzzlers may not be submitted for presentation elsewhere during CHEST 2009. If you have submitted cases for use during case report presentations, you may not submit the same cases for the ACCP Clinical Case Puzzlers.

Cases must include:

  • History (100 words)
  • Physical findings (100 words)
  • Discussion (150 words)
  • Enumeration of differential diagnosis and final diagnosis (100 words)
  • Pertinent lab data (100 words)
  • Teaching points (200 words)
  • Display chest radiograph/chest CT (see image requirements)

Image Requirements
Submit images as .jpg files, .pdf files, or PowerPoint images. Image quality should be 300 dpi or higher. For radiologic imaging: include one to two chest radiograph images and two to four chest CT images at 300 dpi resolution. For pathologic imaging: include one to three pathology images with the appropriate staining technique noted. E-mail images to programs@chestnet.org.

If selected, you will be required to send in your case write-up and pathologic images as a PowerPoint presentation. You must ensure that the use and reproduction of the materials and information will not violate any third party's copyright or other property rights. Later on, actual radiographic material can be sent to ACCP to be converted to digital images.

This is a great opportunity to present at a national meeting!
Submission Deadline: August 21
